ECOSOC stands for the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), one of the six principal organs of the United Nations (UN). It serves as the central platform for discussing international economic, social, and environmental issues, and for formulating policy recommendations.

Key Functions of ECOSOC:
Coordination & Policy Dialogue – Facilitates cooperation among UN agencies, governments, and NGOs on economic and social issues.

Sustainable Development – Plays a major role in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Humanitarian & Social Issues – Addresses global challenges like poverty, health, education, gender equality, and climate change.

Forum for Stakeholders – Brings together UN member states, businesses, academics, and civil society to discuss solutions.

Structure:
54 Member States (elected by the UN General Assembly for 3-year terms).

Several Subsidiary Bodies, including:

Functional Commissions (e.g., Commission on the Status of Women, Commission on Sustainable Development).

Regional Commissions (e.g., UN Economic Commission for Africa, UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific).

Expert Bodies & Standing Committees.

Meetings & Key Events:
High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) – Monitors progress on the SDGs.

Annual ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development – Discusses funding for sustainable development.

Youth Forum & Humanitarian Affairs Segment – Engages young leaders and addresses crises.
